Types of test performed by Stretchtest
Two types of test are available.
1) Routine non destructive testing to confirm required strength.
This means that the item to be tested is stressed to a pre-defined
figure. Finished garments when tested by this means can be safely
sold, if they pass with no fabric damage. This conforms to BSI
7907 1997 standards and the machine can be easily set to meet
other standards.
2) Destructive testing, to establish ultimate tensile strength
- the failure point.
What can be tested
Stretchtest tests the strength of component attachment on clothing.
This include press-studs, poppers, buttons, bows, beads, toggles,
hooks and other trims. Security of zip-pulls and zip end stops
can be tested and also the stitching used to attach the zip.
Another important test is seam strength.
Labels
Printed labels can be produced to confirm the results of each
test. As worldwide, the tightening up of legislation is happening,
permanent printed records of tests are becoming necessary. Labels/tickets
when raised come with test number, date, real time, length of
test, force reached and either "pass" or "fail",
printed automatically. As a further safeguard, the operator has
to fill in manually, the result of a visual inspection. An example,
being the button remains on after testing but the button or fabric
is damaged, thus it becomes a failed garment. The operator can
fill in further valuable information, as the ticket is designed
for full record keeping, at any stage of the production cycle.
The operator has to fill in their name at the bottom of the label
which completes due diligence confirmation that truly adequate
testing has been done. Extra software to link a machine to a
PC will be available.
